• New York's Skyline

In this demonstration we are practicing mixing greys while painting this gorgeous New York's Skyline.
I am sharing my mixing greys chart and showing what types of grey we will be using for the shadows.
I am also showing how to prepare for painting large but clean and consistent washs.
Hope you enjoy it! Happy painting!

  • Flat Iron Building

In this demonstration we are painting a winter street scene.
This is the Flatiron building in New York. This is a long demonstration with a little exercise at the beginning,
so if you are not used to painitng over an hour, please alow a couple of days to complete it.
As usual, I am mostly focusing on painting light and atmosphere and the place comes secondary.
But, I am surely including all the iconic features: the architecture, the overhanging traffic lights, and the beautiful heritage street lamps.
    Hope you enjoy it.
    Happy painting!

  • The Boat House

In this demonstration, we are focusing on proportions and how to do referencing when sketching.
Also, we are practicing achieving correct tonal values and playing with the order we apply them.
It is not always as straight forward as light first and dark next.
Sometimes, we can paint dark shapes first and light shapes second to make sure all things are connected and united.
Hope you enjoy this demostration and learn something new.
    Happy painting!

  • Labour Day Picnic

In this demonstration we are painting in black and white, the Sepia and Lunar Black (Daniel Smith paint) to be exact.
This is a monochrome paitning and all about the tonal values and paint consistency.
I wanted to keep this reasonably simple, so picked a scene with a large tree as a main feature.
    Please enjoy! Happy painting!

  • Sail Away

In this demonstration we am painting a seascape with sailboats from imagination.
I have an old reference painitng as an inspiration.
In this demonstration I talk about how to paint something of your own but drawing the inspiration from an existing piece of art.
I believe this is a great learning technique.
I hope this is helpful and enjoyable.
    Happy painting!

  • Mystery Creek

This demonstration is based on pure imagination (memory and imagination, a combination of things that are commonly present in landscapes). The idea behind painting from imagination/memeory is to really enjoy and trust the process; look what you see on the paper and go with the flow.
I tried to keep it simple in terms of the composition and the process. There is a number of times in the demonstration where you can stop, let it dry and continue at a later date.
There is quite a bit of wet on wet, so hopefully this is a helpful and enjoyable practice for you.
    Happy painting!

  • Zeally Bay

In this demonstration we are painting a beach scene with the focus on dramatic sky with clouds and water/wet send reflection.
It is a simple composition and a straight forwards process.
I will spend most of the time painting the skys wet on wet, graded wash for the reflection and wet on wet dry sand.
All these techniques are invaluable in watercolour.
    Please enjoy!

  • Surf Beach

In this demostration, we are painting a seascape in Torquay.
This is based on a plein air sketch I did not that long ago.
I was inspired by the light and atmosphere on location and wanted to recreate this in the studio.
In reagards to the technical aspect, this painting is a good way to practice gradient washes, painting surf and water reflection.
Hope it is enjoyable and informative.
    Happy painting!

  • Swanston Street

In this demonstration we are painting a street scene.
It is Swanston Street in Melbourne.
This scene is more challenging as it includes a large connected mass of trees.
To help with this I included a short tutorial "How to Mix Greens and paint trees" at the beginning.
Hope it is helpful! Please enjoy!
